RheinEnergie AG -
Drinking water plant

RheinEnergie is not solely an energy distributor, although it does indeed generate a large percentage of its own electricity, but is chiefly a supplier of district heating for domestic, business and industrial use. It places great emphasis on the application of modern fuel-saving technology and makes a substantial contribution to conserving resources and enhancing economic efficiency and environmental protection. The company has also increased its commitment to the field of renewable energies. RheinEnergie supplies people and industry in Cologne and the surrounding districts with drinking and industrial water.

The guided tour provides insight into the way drinking water is produced and how it is tested more frequently and stringently than any other commodity. After an introductory talk, the processes will be demonstrated with reference to a laboratory test before the guide leads the party on a tour of the drinking water plant.

Daily analyses are carried out using state-of-the-art equipment in accordance with the latest methods. Readings are collected from all around the city area. Modern laboratory technology enables analytical chemists to detect minute traces of a substance in a sample of water. Nowadays, specialists are able to determine the most minute concentrations of substances equivalent to a lump of sugar dissolved in a medium-sized reservoir.

The RheinEnergie model is based on cooperation with other companies from the Rhine region. Even though it has become a well established player in the energy market throughout Germany, it remains dedicated to the people and companies in the region.
